HOW

CONTACT
THE SURGERY?
If you would like advice from a doctor/nurse or feel that your problem can be sorted with a phone call, then please leave a message at reception along with your mobile number. You will be telephoned back as soon as possible if the problem is urgent. Most telephone calls are answered between 12 noon and 3.30pm. The receptionist will ask one or two details to make sure that you get the most appropriate help.
On Wednesday afternoons when the surgery is closed, patients with urgent medical problems can be seen at the Valley Surgery. The telephone line will be switched through to that surgery.
HOW
DO I...
MAKE
AN APPOINTMENT?
All consultations are made by appointment. An appointment can be made by calling in at the surgery or telephoning 946 2767. You are free to consult with any doctor within the practice but it is obviously an advantage to see the same doctor for the same problems so that continuity can be maintained. Please let the receptionist know which doctor you would like to see.
If you request an urgent medical appointment you will be seen the same day. It may not always be possible for this to be the doctor of your choice and, if not, an explanation will be given.
If you cannot keep an appointment then please let us know, however late, so that we can offer it to another patient.
HOW

FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE ILL?
The receptionists will always try to ensure that children who are unwell are given an appointment as soon as possible on the day of request. They are likely to be seen more quickly by bringing them to the surgery than by requesting a home visit. We can provide a separate waiting area for them if they are distressed or infectious.
HOW
DO I...
REQUEST
A HOME VISIT?
These are carried out at the discretion of the doctor, and are reserved for patients who are genuinely too ill to come to the surgery. If you require a home visit please call before 11.00am. The receptionist will need details of the patient and the problem so that the doctors can assess the urgency of the call. Unless urgent, the visit wil be carried out between 12 noon and 3.00pm on that day. Please note that a doctor can see three patients in the surgery in the time taken to do one home visit.
HOW
DO I...
OBTAIN
TEST RESULTS?
Please bring any specimens requested
by the doctor to the reception desk before 10.30am pn Wednesdays as they are transported to
the hospital the same day. Please phone for test results after 11.00am when the
telephone lines are less busy. For reasons of confidentiality, it is practice
policy that results will only be given to patients themselves except in the case
of dependent children.
